The Story
Snapchain started as a simple question: can you build a messaging app that doesn't rely on servers, databases, or intermediaries?
At the time, most secure communication tools still required trust in infrastructure, providers, or protocols that ultimately stored or routed user data. The idea behind Snapchain was different: fully encrypted communication where users keep control of their keys, without depending on centralized systems.
The first working prototype was built in just a few months. It proved that the core concept worked, but the experience was far from ideal. Sending a message required confirming transactions through external wallets, making it slow, complex, and impractical for everyday use.
Rather than forcing an early release, development paused. The underlying technology, wallet integrations, standards, and mobile capabilities needed time to mature.
When work resumed, the direction was clear: simplify everything. Snapchain was rebuilt as a mobile-first application using a unified codebase, focusing only on the essentials. Features like group chats or media sharing were intentionally left out to prioritize reliability and security.
Mobile devices offer hardware-backed security environments that make them a better place to handle sensitive data like private keys. This became a foundational design decision and continues to shape the product.
Today, Snapchain is being developed as a fully independent project. It is currently in the testing phase, focused on smart contract integration and connecting the app to blockchain networks.

Communication should not require permission.
